What happens if a site loses its internet connection?
Devices that are already connected stay connected.
If the site has a connector, appliances and MAC-only devices can still join. Turn on Offline authentication on the connector's row in the client's Connectors tab. The connector keeps a copy of Passbeam's answer for each appliance and MAC device at that site, updated every five minutes. If your switches can't reach Passbeam, they ask the connector, and it puts the device on the same VLAN Passbeam would.
People and Intune devices still need Passbeam. The connector refuses them while the site is offline.
What the connector decides shows in the authentication log once the site is back online, marked Via connector.
After an outage your switches may keep asking the connector. It passes everything on to Passbeam, so people and devices connect as normal.
To set it up, RADIUS needs to be on for the site and the connector needs to be version 0.3.0 or later. Add the connector's address as the last authentication server in the RADIUS profile your switches use, with the site's RADIUS secret. Allow UDP 1812 from your switches to the connector, and from the connector out to Passbeam's two RADIUS servers.
On UniFi, a device that joins during an outage gets on after about two minutes, because the switch tries both Passbeam servers first.
